ABOUT
The Great Northern Brahman Sale is an annual brahman sale offering an outstanding line-up of brahman bulls, females and breed-leading genetics.
Held on a Thursday and Friday at the end of October each year, the sale will be celebrating its fifth year running in 2024 with a strong line-up of bulls coming back to this years’ sale, as well as the well-loved Heifer and Genetics sale the night before.
Each year the sale is held in the Whitsundays, providing an opportunity for brahman breeders across Australia to come and purchase breed-leading sires, heifers and genetics while making a holiday of their trip in Airlie Beach, Queensland.
“Starting out as a vision between like-minded and progressive cattlemen, the Great Northern Brahman Sale has now become a reality.”
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Starting out as a vision between like-minded and progressive cattlemen, the Great Northern Brahman Sale (GNBS) has now become a reality for a range of Queensland-based brahman breeders.
In 2017, five brahman breeders came together and collectively purchased NCC Dienka for $45,000, reaching the record red brahman female sale price at that time. The purchase of Dienka was the catalyst for the Great Northern Brahman Sale, with each vendor having a common genetic thread throughout their herd.
For the upcoming 2024 sale, new vendors have come onboard with a total of seven vendors now forming the collective vendor group of the Great Northern Brahman Sale. This years’ sale will see a line-up of red and grey brahman bulls and heifers, and breed-leading brahman genetics being offered by Vella Brahmans, Cambil Brahmans, Ooline Brahmans, Burdekin Brahmans, Palm Creek Brahmans, Badilla Brahmans, and Kent Beef. Situated across Central and North Queensland, each operation is family-owned and run, with all breeders sharing a joint passion in breeding leading brahman genetics to improve the overall brahman breed.
Back row, L-R: Blake Chiesa from Badilla Brahmans, Darren Kent from Ooline Brahmans, Pete and Mariah Chiesa from Palm Creek Brahmans, James Kent from Kent Beef, Nick and Kira Brownson from Burdekin Brahmans
