Important changes at Great Northern Sale
Story by Kent Ward
Two new and major additions will make the forthcoming 2024 Great Northern Brahman Sale, Whitsundays, 24th to the 25th of October a sale event not to miss. This year’s catalogue will feature the inclusion of grey bulls for the first time and a new vendor has joined the group which will enhance and expand the offering.
The vendor list and supporting studs are the Vella, Cambil, Ooline, Palm Creek, Burdekin, Badilla and Kent Beef studs. Proceedings kick off at the Airlie Beach Hotel, 24 October with the staging of the Great Northern Heifer and Genetics Sale followed by the annual Great Northern Brahman Sale the following day, Friday, 25 October at the Proserpine Showgrounds. Both sales will be staged as a live auction with online bidding available. Selling agents for 2024 have been announced and will be GDL and Elders with both the sales hosted online through the StockLive portal.
Ray and Leah Vella, Vella Brahmans, will support the sale after their recent purchase of the NCC herd earlier this year. All vendors have been involved in purchasing top selling bulls and females at many of the breeds premier sale outlets, while all vendors have embraced and are involved in top class multiplication techniques such as IVF, ET and AI programs.
All of the sale vendors have made significant and considerable investments within the Brahman breed over the years both domestically and internationally. Much of those acquisitions and their progeny representing leading genetics are on offer at this sale. The sale is quickly gaining a reputation as an outlet for both leading sires, donor females and commercially relevant bull with carcase traits at affordable rates. The sale will continue to cater for all markets and producers with the addition of grey bulls into this year’s sale, attracting buyers of both red and grey high quality males and females.
According to the vendors they are confident that this year’s offering will be like that of previous years with cattle that suit both the seedstock, stud and commercial operations.
